Basic conditions of the visa:

  • Type of permit: temporary residence permit for up to 1 year, without the possibility of extension.
  • Income requirements: it is necessary to confirm financial viability (contracts, bank statements, salary certificates).
  • Submission format: online, at a consulate abroad, or through administrative authorities in Slovenia.
  • Permitted activities: work for a foreign employer or clients, as well as remote entrepreneurship.
  • It is forbidden to work for Slovenian companies or provide services within Slovenia.

  • Family members can apply together with the applicant.
  • They receive a residence permit for a similar period.
  • They are not allowed to work in Slovenia, but they can do remote work.

Why Slovenia is a great place to work remotely:

  • Low cost of living: rental housing and daily expenses are significantly lower than in Western European countries.
  • High-quality digital infrastructure: fast Internet, advanced IT services.
  • Travel convenience: Slovenia is a member of the Schengen area, which allows you to move freely across 29 EU countries.
  • Scenic nature: Alps, lakes (Bled), the Adriatic Sea, wine regions and national parks.
  • High level of safety and cleanliness.

Practical tips for job seekers:

  • Collect the documents in advance:
  • confirmation of remote employment or business,
  • income statements,
  • confirmation of medical insurance,
  • documents for family members (if traveling with you).
  • Apply online through the website of the Office of Foreigners of Slovenia or at the consulate.
  • Keep an eye on the deadlines — the visa is issued for one year, without extension. After that, a new application is possible only after 6 months.
  • Please note the restrictions — earning money on Slovenian territory (for example, from local customers) is prohibited.
