In the face of increasing sanctions pressure and limited access to Western jurisdictions, Switzerland remains one of the few European countries where wealthy Russians can legally obtain a residence permit through investments. We are talking about the so—called "golden visa", a unique Swiss scheme that combines financial transparency, prestige and long-term prospects.

What is the Swiss Golden visa?

Since 2008, Switzerland has been providing an opportunity for foreigners outside the EU and EFTA to obtain a residence permit subject to payment of a fixed tax. This amount varies depending on the canton, starting from 250,000 Swiss francs in less popular regions and reaching one million francs in economic centers like Zurich.

Candidates are not required to conduct business in Switzerland — it is enough to demonstrate financial viability and lack of employment in the country. In practice, this means that the applicant must be "economically useful" — in other words, make a regular contribution to the canton's budget.

As of 2025, about 500 holders of such visas have been officially registered, including a significant number of Russian citizens.
